DAY 23

Today started out cold, got warmer in the afternoon and went back to cold in the evening; such deceiving weather. On a totally unrelated note, Anglia ate shrimp dumpling which included a mysterious ingredient; century egg. It was strangely jelly-like and a friend enlightened me with some facts about it, such as the egg has to be doused in horse urine before burying it under soil. I wonder, do those eggs get processed the same way even now?

For today’s GEMs we had a new lecturer who is Korean-Chinese. His name is Piao Hefu and he prepared videos for us to watch. The first video was titled China Rises and it was about the country’s journey to the much-anticipated Beijing Olympics which took place last year, as well as about the country’s current politics. The second video was the opening ceremony of the 080808 Olympics. Excitement filled me as I couldn’t watch the live broadcast last year due to project schedule. Unfortunately it had to be cut short but hopefully we can watch the continuation next Monday.
