DAY 12

This is yours truly who woke up with a sore throat this morning although today was interim review day. Project was presented and predictably we had to re-look at our design issue, approach and intent. The rest of the week will be spent brainstorming yet again in addition to working on InTech assignments.

On the way to lunch, I peeked at the school’s sports meet and managed to catch the women’s relay race. The stadium was decorated with floats, balloons, cheerleaders and spectators in uniform. It has been a while since I last saw such an event and it made me want to be a part of the cheering spectators. On a totally unrelated note, I had to make do with tasteless dumplings for lunch due to the sore throat.

Since today is Thursday, half the day was set aside for excursions. This time we went to a food factory called Doerte which was about an hour’s drive away from the campus. Apparently Doerte is a Singapore brand though curiously I have never heard of it back in the island.

The best part of today’s excursion was that I got to look like a possibly demented surgeon from wearing a lab coat, white wellingtons, hair net and face mask. Going along with the getup, I also had to wash my hands thoroughly and wade through a shallow pool to sanitize the wellingtons before entering the interior of the factory. I felt as though I was going to get sicker from breathing through the face mask. The not-so-best part was that after all the trouble of sanitizing ourselves, we could only observe the factory from an isolated glass box for a mere 5 minutes.

I like to believe that this peculiar signage was there to compensate for the lacking amusement.

During the drive back to the campus, I saw cows, horses and most interestingly; pigs. Dirty as they were, I actually found the movement of their snouts quite adorable.

For dinner, my group of 7 friends initially wanted to have Pizza Hut. But alas, the nearest outlet is about an hour’s drive away and tired as I was of Chinese food, I wasn’t willing to travel so far just to satisfy my tongue. We ended up having noodles in a new place introduced by a friend. I felt silly eating dumpling noodles because I already had my fill of dumplings for the day during lunch. The noodle was kind to my sore throat but gradually my tongue wanted more. I took a risk by adding chili but to my relief it didn’t endanger the throat. In fact, my throat feels like it’s on its way to recovery.
